Step-by-step guide

How to compare two freight quotes

A cheaper number is not necessarily a cheaper movement. Normalize the scope before comparing transport rates.

The SAME-QUOTE method

  1. Same vehicle/body and capacity.
  2. Access and loading assumptions.
  3. Money inclusions: toll, tax, waiting.
  4. Exact pickup/delivery points.
  5. Quality proof: vehicle/driver confirmation process.
  6. Unloading and detention terms.
  7. Obligations for documents/securement.
  8. Timing and receiver window.
  9. Evidence and proof of delivery.

Comparison example

LineQuote AQuote B
Vehicle22 ft open22 ft closed
TollIncludedExtra
Waiting4 hours includedFrom arrival
UnloadingCustomerUnclear

These are not comparable until body, toll, waiting and unloading are aligned.

Our opinion

Ask the transporter to write what is excluded. Exclusions expose risk faster than a long list of generic promises.
